Wordpress: Advantages and Disadvantages

Wordpress works well with SEO, but so does any site that is properly setup. The biggest gripe I have with wordpress is all the sites look like a template and look like a blog. There is nothing custom to it. You can manipulate it, but it still looks like it was made in wordpress and the majority just look like an updated template.

Another gripe is the continued updating of the software to prevent hackers from coming in. I feel wordpress is a risky solution for a website and HTML is safer code. However, you can always host with wordpress.com and get the ability to have your content display in their network which will help with SEO as well.

Clients think they want the ability to go in and change the web site content instead of calling you and paying you to do the updates. They actually want and use this ability about 50% of the time and still need you to do work on the site to get things right and or need training.

I also do not like the wordpress interface, I would rather work with my tools and get into the code. Wordpress is more for the beginner designers. Here is a great article that explains it the best: http://michaeldluke.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/wordpress-vs-dreamweaver-5-reasons-to-use-dreamweaver/
